Producer Loops say: 'Middle Eastern Instruments is an enigmatic collection of traditional Ney, Setar and Tar recordings. Use these samples to sculpt an authentic Middle Eastern soundtrack for film and television or get experimental and set your commercial releases apart from the rest. The only limit for these samples is your imagination.
I hold my hands up and admit I'd never heard of them before and thought 'Setar' was 'Sitar' spelt wrong. Nope! Not at all and, according to Google, the word "Târ" means string and the word "Se" means three in Persian and for this reason "Setâr" means a stringed instrument with three strings. Setar is a plucked string instrument and and the right index finger nail is used as a plectrum to pluck or strum the instrument.
Facinating indeed and these sounds really give you a flavour of the Middle East simply because the Producer Loops team 'recorded these unique instruments on location in the Middle East, capturing every nuance of each instrument and utilising the talents of three incredibly skilled traditional musicians.'
All the sounds from Producer Loops are always key and tempo labelled and these beauties are no exception and have a superb range from A to G with lots inbetween and roll along at 60 to 125bpm so you can add the sounds to lots of genres simply to make your track stand out with 'something completely different'.
The Instruments:
The Setar is a stringed instrument used in Folk and Classical music throughout Iran. The drone string on the Setar adds an almost hypnotic quality to the sounds produced by this traditional instrument from the lute family.
The Iranian Tar is a close cousin of the Setar but has a fuller presence due to its three drone strings. The figure-of-8 shaped sound bowl on this instrument gives it a resonance like no other.
The wind instrument heard within the demo is the ney, a flute which is popular throughout all regions of the Middle East.
The ney is an ancient instrument, with depictions of ney players appearing in wall paintings in the Egyptian pyramids and actual neys being found in the excavations at Ur. This indicates that the ney has been played continuously for 4,500–5,000 years, making it one of the oldest musical instruments still in use.
BE AWARE: No MIDI Included: These instruments were recorded live, in all their glory, so this pack does not include MIDI files.
